It's
not unusual for high performance teams to experience highs and lows,
especially after achieving great successes. It is difficult to maintain
peak performance all of the time. During these times of team distress,
it is important to understand how your team is working, so that
you can address any problems.
Team
issues fall into two categories: technical and human. A good way
to find out what's really going on is to schedule a one-hour interview
with every team member, encouraging each member to discuss team
issues and team improvement. Typically after the first three interviews,
you have a good idea of the major problems, issues, etc.
We
have devised the following health survey as a quick, interesting,
and fun way to solicit information about your team. There are twenty
items in the Team Health Survey. If you rate each item from 1-5,
where five is the best, a maximum score of 100 makes it easy to
get an idea of how your team rates. Or, hand it out to your team
and see how they rate themselves.
